waiting for the easter bunny
* * *
Things are winding down here. The snowbirds are starting to leave and soon I'll be one of them. I attended my last meeting of the season of the Florida Keys Quilters. Such a wonderful creative talented bunch of women.![]() |

I used to make up a little easter basket for my husband every year. For over 25 years. He never gave me anything. Not even a card. (Bitter, you ask? Well, maybe a little but on the other hand, I do now realize I am better off without him.) So I say a celebration is in order and I'm off to Our Lady of Perpetual Mimosas this morning. Happy Easter and Happy Passover and Happy Spring to everybody.
I take time to savor the beauty of my surroundings. I live in a bountiful, vibrant world.

Well the universe intervened, as it so often does, to make me feel better. This oppressive heat was making me crazy - those who know me, know I am not a fan of the heat and humidity - when a huge crash of thunder, lightning and a big wind hurling rain sideways ushered in some lovely cool air. What a relief and I have a new lease on life. Plus, I do love a storm.
I still have fleas though.

Well, I took the girls in for their annual vaccines and got some extremely BAD NEWS! We have FLEAS! Zoiks. And we don't like to point paws or name names but a certain yellow lab with fleas did visit us from Michigan last month.
Wikipedia says, "They are wingless, with mouthparts adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood." I could not bear to read any more than that. Because I am FREAKING OUT. We have never never had fleas before. Lu is 10 and Sophie is 8 and we have NEVER had fleas. I. Am. So. Upset.
So, I went to Publix and bought Borax, of the 20 mule team and all that, and have now ground it in to all of the throw rugs. Non toxic. The doggie bedding and towels are in the washer on hot water, currently undergoing their second rinse. The girls have had Frontline applied.
And I am itching. The dogs aren't scratching. I wasn't itching before I found out. Not at all. Now, I feel like I'm covered in the little vampires. Gross! I am going to have to develop some serious amnesia before I go to bed tonight. I've put Lavender and Peppermint essential oil under the mattress. oy vey. It's always something...

The Fabulous Florida Keys are returning to just that, seemingly over night. The hordes of sunburned tourists have vaporized. No traffic, no lines. It is heavenly. The merchants are grousing about Easter being four weeks early but I think everyone is happy for a break from the madness.
I took my mom and dad to the airport on Saturday and they are safely home and my sister and niece are winging their way back to California today.
I spent all day yesterday working on a commissioned quilt I'm making from the shirts of a deceased husband. I'll show you a picture when it's finished. And fyi, this is the last one of these I do. The top is almost done. The purple flannel will be the backing.
So, that's all I got for now. I did want to give a shout out to the wondrous Miss Doris Day. Tomorrow is her 88th birthday. I just love her, beautiful inside and out. Many happy returns!
